New Delhi: Delhi University’s DUSU elections, held on September 18, 2025, have unveiled a compelling story of student leadership.
Aryan Maan of ABVP, a committed library science student, won the Presidency with 28,841 votes, defeating NSUI’s Joslyn Nandita Choudhary, their first female presidential candidate in 17 years. ABVP’s dominance continued with Kunal Dayal securing Secretary and Deepika Jha claiming Joint Secretary. In a notable twist, NSUI’s Rahul Jhansla captured Vice President with 29,339 votes, surpassing the President’s tally. This reflects DUSU’s panel-based voting, where students choose a slate, but preferences vary across posts, allowing the VP to edge out.
DUSU is more than a campus vote; it’s a proving ground for India’s future.
Alumni like Raghav Chadha and Kanhaiya Kumar rose from its ranks. In the 1980s, NSUI held sway; the 1990s saw ABVP’s rise. This year, 60,272 students 39.36% turnout drove campaigns focused on better hostels and Wi-Fi (ABVP), inclusivity (NSUI), and lower fees (SFI-AISA).
Tensions followed the results. The Delhi High Court banned victory processions, dampening celebrations. Amit Shah lauded a “youth mandate,” while NSUI alleged administrative interference.
Aryan Maan’s leadership and Rahul Jhansla’s resilience highlight DU’s vibrant pulse. As students vote, they’re not just electing leaders they’re shaping India’s tomorrow.
