Mumbai: Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has reportedly received a serious threat, leading to swift action by the Mumbai Police and a noticeable increase in security outside his residence. The event has sparked an alarm in the movie industry, particularly when it unfolds soon after another frightening incident when gunshots were being fired outside the house of director Rohit Shetty.
Threat Message Sparks Police Investigation
According to a report by PTI, Ranveer Singh was sent a threatening voice note, allegedly through WhatsApp, demanding crores of rupees. The Mumbai Police was alerted soon after receiving the message and the Crime Branch was in charge of investigation. Police sources affirmed that the voice note is under investigation and that efforts are being made to trace the sender. The probe has also involved a search operation.
Officials have not yet revealed the exact content of the message or the identity of the sender. Although a serious threat is being addressed, Ranveer Singh and his team have not yet filed a formal complaint. Nevertheless, officials have been keeping a close watch on the case and are still investigating.
Security Beefed Up At Ranveer and Deepika’s Residence
Following the threat, security at the Mumbai residence shared by Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone has reportedly been strengthened. According to a letter being circulated online and alleged to have been written by the society managing committee, there are six armed private security guards at the premises, as well as one uniformed police officer. The letter notes that such heavy security deployment was not in place earlier.
The society has reportedly expressed concern over the movement of armed personnel through common areas such as the lobby, gymnasium and children’s play zone. Citizens have raised concerns and inconvenience caused by the existence of firearms in the common areas.
In a letter dated February 10, addressed to the Dadar Police Station, the Society Managing Committee sought clarity on several points. These include whether the private guards are carrying licensed firearms inside the residential complex, whether official permission was granted for such deployment, and details about the police officer stationed at the flat, including the department involved and the nature of the duty.
Industry Tensions Add To The Storm
The threat to Ranveer Singh comes at a time when the actor is already surrounded by industry speculation and controversy. The most recent news is that his long-awaited movie Don 3 has been canceled after Ranveer allegedly dropped out of the franchise following the success and release of Dhurandhar.
To make the situation worse, Variety India earlier this week reported that Farhan Akhtar had reportedly asked Ranveer Singh to pay him (Variety India) 40 crore in damages claiming that he had walked out of the project months before filming was due to commence. Although there has not been any official confirmation as to this dispute, the reports have contributed to the increasing buzz about the actor.
