Hyderabadi turned electric, with fans flocking in to witness the much-anticipated Globetrotter event, as filmmaker SS Rajamouli finally released the first teaser of his next mega-project, called Varanasi. The release immediately sparked off social media, courtesy of the dramatic, never-before-seen-before avatar that Mahesh Babu takes on with a blend of mythology, grit, and high-octane action.
The teaser features Mahesh Babu, in an angry, rough appearance covered with blood-streaks, dust, and powerless to stop. His curly, unkempt hair and intense eyes add raw power to the character. The visuals begin with a breathtaking view of him riding on a massive decorated bull amidst a cloud of red dust, a sign of fury and supernatural power. With a trishul in hand, he charges ahead, establishing the tone of a mythic action-adventure set against the sacred energy of Varanasi’s ancient temples.
The backdrop features towering temple silhouettes and a fiery, earthy colour palette that gives the film a mystical yet grand visual identity. The cinematic language that Rajamouli has cultivated to be his signature, the gigantic scale, the emotionality, the mythological subtext all come alive immediately, and a promise of another film on the global level presents itself.
Mahesh Babu’s character appears to be deeply rooted in Indian tradition while embracing the persona of a rebel-warrior. The costume that he wears (a dirty blood-streaked, worn shirt) lends truthfulness to the gritty ride of the character. His trishul suggests some divine association, perhaps to the motifs of doom, guarding, and retribution.
