New Delhi: Simone Tata, a woman whose vision created the Indian beauty and retail, is gone at the age of 95. She was sent into eternity in a calm death in Mumbai, following a brief illness and she has ended a mighty voyage which started long ago in Switzerland and made its way to the hearts of millions of people in India.
Simone was born in 1930 in Geneva and her childhood was as distant as the Indian metros. But life had different plans. When she was a young Swiss tourist in India in 1953, she made an ideal decision of making India her home when she married Naval Tata and moved to the city of Mumbai in 1955.

This choice initiated a phenomenal change, both in her personal life, as well as the business world in India.
In 1982, Simone was made the chairperson of Lakme. Through her leadership, the firm has flourished to be among the most reputable brands in the Indian cosmetics. Lipsticks, skincare and products specially made of Indian skin and weather replaced the soap and creams. She was popularly known as the Cosmetics Czarina of India as she assisted females in making beauty care more affordable to them no matter where they resided in the nation.

But Simone did not stop there. She was a believer on growth and change. Her second opportunity came in 1996 and this time in the retail sector. Her new dream was clothes, accessories and shopping under one roof. The dream came to reality when a new retail chain was born that transformed the Indian shopping habits. Her new company opened up stores under her supervision that have a variety of clothing and fashion to sell to its customers, an alternative to foreign malls that has been grown locally. This chain was later to be known as Westside which was led by Trent Ltd. Simone used Westside to assist numerous Indian families with the discovery of fashionable and yet inexpensive apparel, all of which are designed or curated in India.
Simone Tata Giving Back to the Charity
Simone was a giver back in business. She silently sponsored charity projects and assisted construction of institutions that strived to educate and benefit the society. Although she led a privileged life, she was still down-to-earth and grounded and did not fail to support any causes she believed in and the community.
Her family life, too, was full. She had a son called Noel Tata as well as was a step mom to Ratan Tata. She had a wonderful life with her children and grandchildren and she was enjoying every moment.

When she became old she was admired not due to her name, but due to the difference that she made, by working hard, being courageous and having a dream to construct something unique in India.
