The US Department of Homeland Security has revealed that members of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have fatally shot down a woman in Minneapolis, as per a Bloomberg report. The woman was identified as Renee Good, 37, a mother of three.

The ICE officer shot the woman when she was in her vehicle in a residential area in Minneapolis, as per DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin.

Here is a video of the moment when the incident occurred:

The government said the woman tried to run over the officers

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed that the woman attempted to hit ICE officers with her vehicle. She described the incident as a “domestic terrorist attack” against ICE personnel.

However, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey rejected the government’s claims at a press conference, accusing immigration agents of creating chaos in the city.

“We demand that ICE immediately leave the city and the state. We stand firmly with our immigrant and refugee communities,” he wrote on social media.

He added that in the name of security, disorder was being spread, families were being torn apart, and people were now losing their lives.

What actually happened at the scene

Several videos of the incident have appeared on social media, CNN reported. The footage shows an ICE officer walking towards an SUV stopped in the middle of the road and asking the driver to open the door.

The vehicle then moves forward. A second ICE officer standing in front of the SUV immediately pulls out his gun and fires at least two shots from close range.

It is not clear whether the vehicle hit the officer. After the shooting, the SUV crashed into two nearby vehicles and came to a halt. Emergency medical teams later tried to revive the woman, but she died shortly afterwards.

About the victim Renee Good

Renee Good was married and had a six-year-old son. “She was probably terrified,” Ganger said. “Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. She was extremely compassionate. She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being,” added the victim’s mother.

The Kansas City Star reports that the victim lived in Kansas City as recently as the fall of 2023 and applied to Jackson County Circuit Court to change her name that October from Renee Nicole Macklin to Renee Nicole Macklin Good.

“I want to share a name with my partner,” she wrote on the form, which lists her as having three children aged 13, 10 and three at the time. Her request was approved uncontested.

DHS claims victim attempted ‘domestic terrorism’

The DHS was quick to label the victim as a perpetrator of “domestic terrorism”, saying in its statement, “Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them, an act of domestic terrorism.”

Mayor, protestors slam ICE

After the incident, protestors gathered at the scene and vented their anger out at local police personnel and federal officers present, including senior US Customs and Border Patrol official Gregory Bovino, who was the face of ICE crackdwons in major US cities like Los Angeles and Chicago.

Chants of “Shame! Shame! Shame!” and “ICE out of Minnesota!” were heard.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey also slammed ICE officials after the incident, saying that immigration agents were “causing chaos in our city.”

“We are demanding ICE leave the city and state immediately. We stand rock solid with our immigrant and refugee communities,” Frey also said in a social media post.

The area where the incident occurred is around a mile from where police officials killed George Floyd in 2020.

The DHS further backed the action of the ICE agent by saying that this death is “the direct consequence of constant attacks and demonization of our officers by sanctuary politicians who fuel and encourage rampant assaults on our law enforcement.”

“These men and women who are simply enforcing the law on the books are facing 1,300% increase in assaults against them and an 8,000% increase in death threats,” the DHS further claimed.
