After Maduro was captured and put in the New York Jail, Delcy took charge as an acting president. This did not sit well with Donald Trump. The US president said that Delcy must give ‘full access’ of Venezuela to US or she must face consequences that he described ‘much worse than Maduro’.

Speaking to the reporters abroad Air Force One. Trump said the US needs full access of Venezuela, especially oil. ‘We need full access. We need access to the oil and to other things in their country that will allow us to rebuild their country’, Trump said.

Trump also repeated remarks he made to The Atlantic, warning acting president Rodrigues of the possible consequences or what he described as ‘fate worse than Maduro’ is she did not do the ‘right thing’. CNN also reported that Trump did not mention what all he expects out of her. “I do not have to tell you. I just say that she will face a situation probably much worse than Maduro, because you know Maduro gave up immediately’, Trump said.

Notably, Maduro was captured by the US and is currently under US custody.

Delcy extends invitation to US to work together

Soon after Dely took over as acting president she took to her Instagram and issued a message for the world and US, calling for peace and cooperation.

In a post on Instagram, she said, “A message from Venezuela to the world, and to the United States: Venezuela reaffirms its commitment to peace and peaceful coexistence. Our country aspires to live without external threats, in an environment of respect and international cooperation. We believe that global peace is built by first guaranteeing peace within each nation. We prioritise moving towards balanced and respectful international relations between the United States and Venezuela, and between Venezuela and other countries in the region, premised on sovereign equality and non-interference. These principles guide our diplomacy with the rest of the world.”

“We invite the US government to collaborate with us on an agenda of cooperation oriented towards shared development within the framework of international law to strengthen lasting community coexistence. President Donald Trump, our people and our region deserve peace and dialogue, not war. This has always been President Nicolas Maduro’s message, and it is the message of all of Venezuela right now. This is the Venezuela I believe in and have dedicated my life to. I dream of a Venezuela where all good Venezuelans can come together. Venezuela has the right to peace, development, sovereignty and a future,” she said.

It should be noted that Maduro and his wife are scheduled to appear before a federal judge on Monday. This will be their first court appearance following US operation carried out on Sunday.
