An airstrike targeted a base of the separatist group Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Yemen’s southern province of Hadramaut. The attack killed at least seven people and injured more than 20. The area borders Saudi Arabia.
The separatist group STC has blamed Saudi Arabia for the airstrike. However, Saudi Arabia has not yet issued any official response to the allegation.
Hadramaut Governor Salem Al-Khanbashi said that security forces are only trying to regain military bases from STC control. He added that this operation is not aimed at starting a war, but at maintaining security and preventing chaos.
Saudi Arabia targeted Yemen’s Mukalla port on Tuesday
Early Tuesday morning, Saudi Arabia carried out an airstrike on Mukalla port in Yemen. It also alleged that two ships coming from the UAE’s Fujairah port were offloading weapons and military vehicles there. The tracking systems of these ships were also turned off.
Saudi Arabia has claimed that these weapons were being supplied to the separatist group Southern Transitional Council (STC), which could potentially pose a threat to peace and stability. Therefore, the air force carried out a limited strike targeting the weapons and military vehicles.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE have been fighting against Houthi rebels in Yemen for the past 10 years, but they support different factions there.
