Protests against Imran Khan's 17-year sentence magnify across Pakistan

Islamabad: The supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are taking out processions in different parts of the country in protest of the verdict of the court that has sent Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years of imprisonment in the case of Toshakhana-II, according to the local media on Monday.
On Sunday, protesters assembled on the main GT Road, outside the building of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in Peshawar, and chanted slogans in support of the founding leader of the PTI.

During this protest, Member of National Assembly Shandana Gulzar said that “Imran Khan has been ‘fighting’ for the generations to come and for the rights of the citizen,” and that he has never ‘demanded’ anything ever in his life and is ‘fighting’ in support of the poor, according to Pakistan’s most popular English daily, Dawn.

In the Laghari area, the protest was organized by the tehsil council chief of Nawagai, and the PTI district president, Khalilur Rehman. The demonstrators, bearing party flags, chanted slogans against the federal government, which belongs to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, and the judge who gave 17 years’ sentencing to Imran Khan, along with his wife, in a case.

The PTI members have rejected this decision, which has deteriorated the judicial system in Pakistan, weakened by the 27th Constitutional Amendment.

After the judgment, Imran Khan has called for nationwide protests and has decided to challenge the court’s verdict in the Toshakhana II case in the Islamabad High Court.
