7 Dead as Bus Plunges into Deep Gorge in Almora, Rescue Operation Underway

A passenger bus met with an accident in Uttarakhand's Almora on Tuesday, triggering a major rescue operation. Initial reports suggest that at least seven people are feared dead in the incident.

A bus carrying passengers fell into a deep gorge in Uttrakhand’s Almora district on Tuesday morning, claiming lives of 7 people. The accident took place around 8am near Shilapani in the Vinayak area on the Bhikiyasain–Ramnagar road, about four kilometres ahead of Bhikiyasain.

The bus was en route to Ramnagar via Dwarahat, Bhikiyasain and Basot. Several passengers were on board at the time of the accident, 11 are in critical condition while many others sustained serious injuries.

Over 11 passengers critical

More than 11 passengers are reported to be in critical condition, while several others were also injured in the crash. The administration has not yet officially confirmed the final number of casualties.

Following information about the incident, senior officials and police teams rushed to the site. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bhikiyasain Yakshi Arora, Bhatraunjkhan police station in-charge Avneesh Kumar and Sub-Inspector Sanjay Joshi reached the location along with police personnel.

Rescue operations underway

Ambulance services and disaster management teams were immediately deployed for relief and rescue work. Due to the difficult hilly terrain, rescue operations are proving challenging.

Local villagers also assisted in the rescue operation. Efforts are ongoing to pull the injured out of the gorge and shift them to nearby hospitals for treatment.
