New Delhi: Indian Navy’s indigenous warship INS Sahyadri has arrived at Japan’s Yokosuka port. This is part of the joint maritime exercise JAIMEX-25 being conducted between both countries.

From October 16 to 18, the Indian ship conducted various war games with Japanese ships Asahi, Oumi, and submarine Jinryu during the sea phase. Special focus was on anti-submarine warfare and missile defense systems.

What Happened at Sea?

During this three-day exercise, both navies learned a lot. Aircraft operations were conducted. Mid-sea refueling was practiced. Submarine tracking techniques were worked on.

All this is important because tensions are rising in the Indo-Pacific region today. Given China’s increasing military activities, this joint effort between India and Japan is significant.

What’s Next at Port?

After reaching Yokosuka on October 21, several programs will be held between sailors of both navies. Crew members from both ships will visit each other’s vessels. They’ll plan together.

Interestingly, sailors from both navies will do yoga together. This is part of cultural exchange.

INS Sahyadri’s Special Features

This warship joined the Indian Navy in 2012. It’s a Shivalik-class stealth frigate built in India. It’s an excellent example of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision.

This ship has previously participated in several bilateral and multilateral exercises. Currently, it’s on long-range deployment in the Indo-Pacific region.

India-Japan Partnership

In 2014, both countries established a ‘Special Strategic and Global Partnership’. Since then, cooperation between the navies has been growing steadily.

Both countries believe a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region is necessary. Both navies are working together for this goal.
