New Delhi: In another significant display of India’s growing maritime power and global diplomacy, the Indian Navy’s state-of-the-art warship, INS Trikand, has arrived at Salamis Naval Base in Greece. The warship is set to participate in the first-ever bilateral maritime exercise between India and Greece, marking the beginning of historic defense cooperation between the two nations.
This is the first time that the navies of India and Greece are conducting such a bilateral exercise. The event is being seen as a symbol of the strengthening strategic partnership between the two countries and of India’s growing naval reach, which now extends from the Indo-Pacific to the Mediterranean. INS Trikand, one of the most modern warships in the Indian Navy’s fleet, is representing India in this landmark exercise.
Objective and Strategic Importance of the Exercise
According to the Ministry of Defence, the primary objective of this exercise is to enhance military interoperability between the two navies, establish communication procedures, and test their ability to operate together in the maritime domain. During the exercise, several complex tactical maneuvers will be conducted at sea. This engagement will not only deepen the defense ties between the two nations but also sends a clear message of India being a reliable security partner in the Mediterranean region.
In addition to the drills at sea, the Commanding Officer and crew of INS Trikand will also engage in professional and cultural exchanges, meeting with senior military and naval officials of Greece. This visit follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent trip to Greece, during which defense and security cooperation was identified as a top priority.
