Mumbai: Indian rapper and music producer Badshah has landed in serious controversy after a social media post allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang issued a death threat against him. The threat reportedly came in response to his recent track Tateeree, which the gang claims contains derogatory references to women from Haryana.

The intimidating text was shared on the internet and soon attracted the interest of both the entertainment industry and the fans. As the post says, the rapper was already warned about it in a phone call previously but apparently had neglected it.

Threat message sparks panic

In the message shared online, a member claiming to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang wrote a direct warning to the rapper. The post accused Badshah of insulting Haryana’s culture through his song.

The message read, “Singer Badshah, you tried to spoil the culture of Haryana. Earlier in 2024, we showed you a trailer at your club. This time we will shoot you directly in the forehead.”

The chilling threat has reportedly caused panic within Badshah’s team and raised concerns about the safety of the artist.

Music industry voices concern

The controversy surrounding Tateeree has also triggered debate within the music community. A fellow singer, who chose to remain anonymous, criticised the growing trend of suggestive songs targeting women.

According to the singer, such scandals might be easily evaded in case records dealt with other more significant issues in their songs. He further stated that apologies do not usually help to mend the damage after such songs have been published.

The singer also cited one of the earlier cases that were witnessed with Punjabi pop star Guru Randhawa who had been accused of sexualising schoolgirls in uniform in one of his songs, Azul. The unnamed singer says that artists ought to be more accountable of the messages they convey in their songs.

Controversy grows around the song

The track Tateeree has sparked strong reactions online, especially among those who believe the lyrics portray Haryanvi women in a disrespectful manner. While the rapper has not publicly responded to the latest threat yet, the situation has already escalated into a major controversy.

As the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was involved and the criticism in the music industry has increased, the matter has become one of the most significant controversies of Badshah in recent years. The team of Badshah and authorities would be keeping close eye on the situation as it develops.
