Mumbai: Superstar Rajinikanth is back in action as fresh buzz around Jailer 2 has started doing the rounds online. Although the makers are yet to speak, reports say that the long-awaited sequel can commence its second shooting schedule as early as January 20, 2026. Already fans who have been biting at the bit are looking forward to what is to come.
According to industry chatter, the upcoming schedule of Jailer 2 is expected to be a short two-day shoot. The location reportedly chosen is Athirappilly in Kerala, known for its scenic waterfalls and lush greenery. It is worth mentioning, though, that this update remains report-based and the official confirmation by the production team has not been received.
Vijay Sethupathi Confirms Cameo in Jailer 2
Adding more fuel to the excitement, actor Vijay Sethupathi recently confirmed his involvement in Jailer 2. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, the actor revealed that he has done a cameo in the film. He said that he had accepted the role because of his love and respect towards Rajinikanth and the opportunity to learn with the legendary actor. This discovery has just heightened the interest in the movie.
Jailer 2, the action-comedy drama film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is a follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer. The film is expected to feature several big names making special appearances. Actors like Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Vidya Balan, and Mithun Chakraborty are said to be part of the project.
Recently, Mithun Chakraborty also made headlines after claiming in an interview with Bengali media that Shah Rukh Khan would appear in the film. While this statement grabbed attention, there has been no official confirmation yet. Other than this, one should also expect actress Nora Fatehi in a special song number which will bring glamour into the movie.
What’s Next for Rajinikanth After Jailer 2
Once Jailer 2 is completed, Rajinikanth will move on to his next project, tentatively titled Thalaivar173. Don fame Cibi Chakravarthy will direct the movie and Kamal Haasan will co-produce on the Raaj Kamal Films International banner. Anirudh Ravichander will compose music in the film.
Initially, the project was announced with Sundar C as the director, marking a reunion after many years. However, he later stepped away due to prior commitments. It has been alleged that a number of filmmakers, among them Ashwath Marimuthu, Nithilan Saminathan and Ramkumar Balakrishnan, read scripts to the superstar prior to the ultimate decision being reached.
In a recent media interaction, Rajinikanth confirmed that Thalaivar173 will be a proper commercial entertainer and is expected to go on floors in April this year.
As Jailer 2 prepares to roll out its next schedule and even more exciting projects scheduled, it is obvious that the superstar has no sign of slowing down. Fans now wait eagerly for official announcements from the makers.
