Mumbai: The year 2026 is set to open on a powerful and emotional note with the release of Ikkis, a patriotic war drama that brings to life the inspiring story of Arun Khetarpal. He was the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra, at the tender age of 21 years, and was recognized because of his unparalleled heroism in the war of India against Pakistan in 1971. The film was originally scheduled to release at Christmas, but was later delayed to the first of January to ensure the film opens the new year with a celebration of the spirit of courage and sacrifice.

CBFC Suggestions and Modifications

Prior to its release, Ikkis underwent the certification process with the Central Board of Film Certification. Several alterations and additions were requested by the board to the makers, keeping in mind the sensitive nature of the subject. One of the first instructions was to suitably modify the opening disclaimer. The CBFC also asked for an official acknowledgement of the Poona Horse Regiment, Colonel Hanuth Singh, and the tank crew associated with the real life events.

These acknowledgements were not only added as text but were also communicated through a voiceover. The movie now begins with the photos of warriors, then there is the introductory narration of the context of the particular tank crew of Arun Khetarpal and their participation in the historic battle.

Changes to Credits and Sensitive Content

Further changes were suggested for the end credits. The makers were asked to add a specific text along with a voiceover. Credits were also changed based on a defence expert, to include a complete iconic image of a Lieutenant General, which added to the authenticity of the film, as well as the respect of the armed forces.

Given the realistic portrayal of real events, the makers submitted a consent letter from a member of the Khetarpal family. The scenes that were inspired by the real events were also well documented to maintain accuracy and sensitivity in the movie.

Cuts and Certification Details

When it came to actual cuts, the CBFC asked for limited but important changes. In the second half of Ikkis, the name of a tank was removed. More importantly, a 15 seconds conversation about the relations between India and Pakistan was removed. The board also directed the makers to blur the name of an alcohol brand and add an anti smoking static message.

After all the required changes were made, Ikkis was granted a U A 13 plus certificate on December 15. According to the censor certificate, the film has a runtime of 147 minutes and 15 seconds, which translates to 2 hours, 27 minutes, and 15 seconds.

Cast and Release

Ikkis features Agastya Nanda in the lead role, supported by Jaideep Ahlawat, newcomer Simar Bhatia, and the late Dharmendra. Through its emotional narration and impressive patriotism, the movie is expected to pay tribute to the legacy of a young war hero whose courage still leaves generations to be impressed.

Ikkis is scheduled to be released on January 1, 2026, and it is sure to be an emotional beginning of the year, reminding viewers about the price of sacrifice, bravery, and the real price of freedom.
