New Delhi: On September 11, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump attended a memorial service at the Pentagon to observe the 24th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 2001. The ceremony, moved indoors for security reasons, honored the 184 people who lost their lives when American Airlines Flight 77 was hijacked and crashed into the Pentagon.
Paying respects alongside military officials and defense leaders, the Trumps participated in reading the names of the victims, moments of silence, and laying wreaths. President Trump used the occasion to emphasize national unity and resilience, declaring that American society must continue to stand together in remembrance and justice.
Also present were Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who led tributes recognizing first responders. Given the heightened tensions in the country prompted by recent political and social incidents, this year’s 9/11 ceremonies bore added significance.
Across the United States, memorials were held at Ground Zero in New York City and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. At each site, survivors and families of victims participated in ceremonies reading names, tolling bells, and sharing personal stories of loss and remembrance.
Two-decades after the attacks, the remembrance of 9/11 continues unabated. With President Trump and First Lady Melania’s presence at the Pentagon ceremony, the nation received a reminder of both tragedy and resolve. The events underscored the enduring impact of that day and the importance of honoring those who were lost while reaffirming the commitment to national cohesion.
