Paris, Oct 3(HS): Egypt is working alongside Qatar and Turkey to convince Hamas to accept U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty said on Thursday, warning that rejecting the proposal could fuel an even greater escalation of violence.
Speaking at the French Institute of International Relations in Paris, Abdelatty stressed that no side should be given a pretext to justify further civilian massacres in Gaza. “This is no longer just about the October 7 tragedy. It has moved beyond revenge and taken the shape of ethnic cleansing and genocide. Enough is enough,” he declared.
The Egyptian minister insisted that Hamas must lay down arms, while Israel should be denied any justification to continue its offensive campaign. According to Palestinian health authorities, more than 66,000 people have been killed so far in Gaza as a result of Israeli operations.
The White House earlier this week unveiled a 20-point roadmap, which includes an immediate ceasefire, a hostage-prisoner exchange, a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, Hamas disarmament, and the creation of a transitional administration under international supervision.
Trump has given Hamas three to four days to respond to the plan.Abdelatty said Cairo is committed to making the proposal workable but acknowledged that further negotiations are necessary, particularly on governance and security arrangements.
“We support President Trump’s vision and efforts to end this war, but the details of implementation still require serious dialogue,” he noted. He also firmly rejected any idea of forced displacement of Palestinians, emphasizing that such a move would mean the destruction of the Palestinian cause itself.
“We will never allow displacement to happen under any circumstances,” he added.
Egypt’s stance underscores regional efforts to push Hamas toward compromise, even as the death toll in Gaza continues to mount and international calls for an end to the war grow louder.
