Dev Uthani Ekadashi, also known as Dev Prabodhini Ekadashi is one of the most important Ekadashis of the year. The day is considered highly propitious for devotees, marked by strict fasting and penance.
The day falls 11 days after Diwali. But this year the confusion lies in the exact date of this auspicious festival.
Ekadashi is the 11th day of the fortnight, also called paksha, of the hindu lunar month. Dev uthni ekashi falls during the Shukla paksha of Kartik month. This culminates the slumber period of gods, also called chaaturmaas, that began on the Dev Shayani Ekadashi of Aashadh month. Check out the exact date and timing of Gyaras for this year below.

Tulsi Vivaah and Ekadashi puja vidhi
On this day, Tulsi plant and Shalagram are worshipped and then their wedding takes place, under a canopy of sugarcanes. People following this ritual are advised to wake up early, take a bath in a holy river, and then worship Shalagram stone first. Bathe it with milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugar, holy water and apply sandalwood paste, flowers and tulsi leaves to it, with devotion. Decorate the tulsi plant with red chunari, bangles, jewellery, garland and vermillion. The canopy of sugarcanes should be made by tying them together. Perform an aarti, perform the symbolic seven rounds or pheras of Tulsi and Shalagram. Offer and
distribute prasada thereafter. Light lamps and make rangoli as well, much like Diwali.
