Johannesburg, November 23: India, Australia and Canada on Saturday introduced a new trilateral cooperation framework the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership during the G20 Summit in Johannesburg. The initiative aims to expand collaboration in critical, emerging and future-driven technologies.

A Landmark Trilateral Engagement

The declaration came after a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the summit.

Had an excellent meeting with Mr. Anthony Albanese, PM of Australia and Mr. Mark Carney, PM of Canada on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg. We are delighted to announce an Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership today.

Core Objectives of the ACITI Partnership

In a joint statement, the three governments noted that the partnership will leverage their individual strengths, prioritizing green energy innovation, critical mineral resilience, and future-ready supply chains.

The initiative is also intended to reinforce each nation’s commitments to net-zero ambitions and to evaluate how artificial intelligence can be deployed at scale to enhance public welfare and drive sustainable development.

The ACITI Partnership will work across several key domains:

  • Emerging Technologies: Enhancing cooperation in advanced and next-generation technological fields

Officials from India, Australia and Canada will meet in early 2026 to establish the operational framework and finalize collaborative mechanisms under the partnership.

PM Modi’s Broader G20 Interactions

During the opening session of the G20 Leaders’ Meeting, Prime Minister Modi called for redefining global development benchmarks and suggested forming a G20 coalition to combat the drug-terror nexus along with a global rapid-response health team.

Modi also met UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and held discussions with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on key global challenges.

The Prime Minister said the ACITI Partnership reflects the shared resolve of three democracies spread across different continents to jointly pursue technological leadership and innovation. He added that the framework would open new doors for future generations and improve global economic stability through secure and diversified supply chains.

A New Chapter in Global Tech Cooperation

The ACITI Partnership marks a major step in expanding democratic collaboration and establishing a technology-driven foundation for future global initiatives.
