Mumbai: Aryan Khan’s Netflix directorial debut The Ba**ds of Bollywood* has been sparking conversation long before its release, largely due to its provocative title. In a recent feature by GQ India, cast members Bobby Deol, Lakshya, and Raghav Juyal opened up about what the mysterious asterisks in the name actually stand for.
Bobby Deol, who plays superstar Ajay Talvar, suggested that the title is intentionally unconventional, much like the series itself.
It’s edgy, it’s layered, and you only truly understand its meaning once you’ve seen the whole story,”
he noted, hinting at parallels to his earlier work where a title’s essence revealed itself only later.
Lakshya, essaying the role of Aasmaan Singh, explained that the three stars “***” are more than just stylization.
The word evolves with the themes of the show. When audiences watch the entire series, they’ll realize it has multiple meanings each tied to the characters’ journeys,”
he said.
Raghav Juyal added a lighter perspective, pointing out that the asterisks are also meant to enhance the aesthetic of the title.
It makes the look and feel more striking, and that’s part of what grabs attention,”
he remarked.
The ambiguity of the title has fueled speculation does “Bads” hint at the word “bastards,” or is it simply a bold branding choice? According to the cast, viewers will only discover the truth once the series unfolds.
With Shah Rukh Khan reportedly making a cameo and Red Chillies Entertainment backing the production, expectations are running high. The blend of industry veterans like Bobby Deol and younger talents promises both gravitas and freshness, even as the title itself continues to stir debate.
Ultimately, The Ba**ds of Bollywood* is more than just a name it is a deliberate provocation, designed to intrigue audiences and invite them into Aryan Khan’s bold vision. Whether the mystery pays off will be known once the series streams on Netflix, but for now, the title has succeeded in what it set out to do: start a conversation.
