Mumbai: Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has officially announced his next ambitious project, Operation Sindoor, a film that promises to bring one of the most intense chapters of recent history to the big screen. Supported by Bhushan Kumar, the head of T-Series the film has been based on the book Operation Sindoor: The Untold Story of Deep Strikes in Pakistan by Lt Gen K. J. S. Dhillon.
The buzz is already doing its wonders and the makers have made the movie look like more than a movie-going experience. In their view, it is a narrative that seeks to introduce facts, tact, and human bravery of a significant military action that reinvented the security story of the region.
A story rooted in real events and research
Set against the backdrop of the aftermath of the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, the film will explore how India responded with a covert military campaign known as Operation Sindoor. The attack, which took place in Jammu and Kashmir in April 2025, claimed the lives of 26 civilians and triggered a strong reaction from India.
In May, 2025, India used missile attacks on terror infrastructure connected to such groups as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba within Pakistan and Pakistan-controlled Kashmir. This saw the start of a short but fierce military confrontation between India and Pakistan.
Agnihotri has revealed that the film is based on extensive ground-level research, carried out in collaboration with multiple wings of the Indian Armed Forces. The aim is to go beyond headlines and show what really happened, how decisions were made, and why the operation unfolded the way it did.
Makers call it a “revelation”, not just a film

Both Agnihotri and Kumar have stressed that Operation Sindoor is not being made as a typical war film. Bhushan Kumar described the project as a story that chose them, highlighting the responsibility of presenting such events with honesty and courage. He believes that when a nation goes through moments of such scale, documenting them truthfully becomes essential.
Agnihotri, too, shared the same sentiment and described the film as a revelation that will address the complexity of modern warfare. According to him, the story will be filled with a more sinister and revelational truth than those who are familiar in the mainstream. The movie, according to him, will be centred on courage, professionalism, and strategic clarity in addition to providing an entertaining cinematic experience.
The director also underlined his intent to tell stories that may be uncomfortable but necessary, adding that his goal is not to create noise but to confront it with facts and clarity.
Operation Sindoor is currently in development, with details about the cast and release timeline being kept under wraps. More announcements are expected soon as the project moves forward.
