Mumbai: Vijay Sethupathi’s much awaited pan India project with director Puri Jagannadh has finally got its official title. The film was previously known as Puri Sethupathi, but is now titled Slumdog 33 Temple Road, and the title was announced on January 16, 2026, on the 48th birthday of the actor. This release has immediately generated a buzz among the fans and movie lovers in the country.

The makers shared the striking first look poster along with a powerful line that hints at the tone of the film. The announcement read, “From the slums rises a storm no one can stop. Raw. Ruthless. Real.” In addition to this, the team congratulated the actor on his birthday by addressing him as Makkalselvan, which he acquired over the years due to some of the performances that have influenced people.

The first look poster gives a clear idea of the intense world the film is set in. Vijay Sethupathi is seen in a rugged and commanding avatar, wearing dark sunglasses and holding a blood stained weapon. He is surrounded by piles of wooden crates with money implying a tale of long-rooted crime, authority, and life. Not only is blood smeared over the weapon, but also the title of the film itself, which contributes to the gritty aesthetics.

The poster confirms that this is very much a Puri Jagannadh film, known for its raw storytelling and mass action. Based on previous pre-look posters, it was already implied that Vijay Sethupathi could be a blind character. But the recent uncover confirms that his personality is not innocent, but vicious, brutal, and strong.

Slumdog 33 Temple Road marks the first collaboration between Puri Jagannadh and Vijay Sethupathi, a pairing that has raised expectations across industries. The film is being produced by Puri Jagannadh and Charmme Kaur, with JB Narayan Rao Kondrolla also backing the project. It is presented under the banner of Puri Connects in association with JB Motion Pictures, which has reportedly enhanced the scale and production value of the film.

The movie boasts a strong ensemble cast. Alongside Vijay Sethupathi, the film stars Tabu, Samyuktha Menon as the female lead, Vijay Kumar, Brahmaji, and VTV Ganesh in important roles. The character of Samyuktha is reported to be a multi-layered emotional one and is a prominent component of the story. The project will be further enhanced by the inclusion of the National Award winning composer Harshavardhan Rameshwar to score the music.
