Thamma Movie Review: A Perfect Diwali Entertainer From Maddock's Horror-Comedy Universe

Mumbai: Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s Horror comedy movie, Thamma has already hit the theatres on October, 21. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the film is a perfect festive delight for the audience. It explores the blend of horror, comedy, and emotions exactly what the audience craves for. Following the legacy of Stree, Bhediya and Munjya, Thamma also expands the Maddock Film’s spooky universe even further.

Plot

Alok Goyal played by Ayushmann Khurrana, an adventurous TV reporter from Delhi visits the same jungle and encounters Thadaka played by Rashmika Mandanna while on the forest expedition. But she isn’t a human but a Betaal, a blood sucking immortal being. When Tragedy hits Alok and he is in the verge of dying, Thadaka rescues him. Eventually Alok falls for Thadaka and together they must face the dark froces led by Yakshasan, unfolding a thrilling blend of horror and romance.

Performances

Ayushmann Khurrana has once again proved his effortless and entertaining performance. His chemistry with Rashmika Mandanna feels refreshing and full of spark. Rashmika, as Thadaka, delivers a bold, powerful and confident performance on screen. However, her costumes felt a bit unnecessarily mordernized and slightly out if sync with her character timeline.

On the other hand, Nawazuddin Siddique, though a brilliant actor, feels a bit repetitive. His portrayal of Yakshasan reminds of his earlier roles in the film Munna Michael. His dialogues and humor fall flat and feels forced. While, Paresh Rawal, as Alok’s quirky father adds warmth and gives a nostalgic touch and delivers gamuts of laughs.

Music & Cameos

Thamma’s music adds a solid entertainment dose with three item songs Dilbar ki Ankhon ka featuring Nora Fatehi, Poison Baby stars the stunning Malaika Arora. Each track is very rich and vibrant, but the spotlight belongs to the third song which is a post credit song, ‘Tum Mere Na Huye’ featuring Rashmika Mandanna, who was phenomenal. Her screen presence, charisma, and performance in the song completely stole the show, overshadowing other songs.

But the biggest surprise of Thamma is the Cameo appearances by Varun Dhawan as Bhediya and Abhishek Banerjee as Jana. Connecting the dots between the films add a feeling of nostalgia and excitement.

Verdict

Director Aditya Sarpotdar has once again hit the right notes after Munjya. He exactly knows what the audience wants, a fun, spooky and emotional roller-coaster. Though there are few minor flaws and downs in the film but delivers laughter, thrill making it a complete Diwali entertainer.
