Mumbai: After delivering a historic blockbuster with Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan and director Siddharth Anand are set to reunite for their second collaboration, King. The movie has already created enormous hype and a key announcement regarding the release has contributed to the hype.
According to industry sources, the makers have locked Christmas 2026 as the release window for King. An official announcement confirming the date is expected to be made in the coming week.
Why Christmas 2026 was chosen
Sources close to the development reveal that Shah Rukh Khan and Siddharth Anand were considering two prime release options, December 4 and December 25. The team then agreed to proceed with a release in Christmas 2026 after a lot of deliberations and planning.
One of the key reasons behind skipping the December 4 window is the release of Ramayana. The makers of King reportedly wanted to maintain a respectful distance from the mythological epic, which is expected to create historic box office numbers. By selecting Christmas, the team has made sure that there will be a break of approximately 45 days between the two movies, which will give both projects enough room at the box office.
The Christmas slot also gives King a clear run in Hindi cinema, with no major Bollywood release scheduled during that period. Although Hollywood film Avengers: Doomsday will release a week before, trade analysts reckon that Homely Indian films by Shah Rukh Khan are incomparable among Indian viewers during the festive.
One of Shah Rukh Khan’s biggest action projects
King is being positioned as one of the most ambitious action films of Shah Rukh Khan’s career. The movie will be directed by Siddharth Anand and is likely to be a mixture of realistic hand to hand fighting and slick more than life-sized action scenes, the trademark of the director. It is reported that the film will include several large scale action set pieces that will play a vital role in its character and tone.
The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaideep Ahlawat, Arshad Warsi, Suhana Khan and Abhay Verma. Suhana Khan sharing screen space with her father has already been the most discussed part of the project, and it has provided both emotional and cinematic depth to the film.
With a massive cast, a trusted director actor combination, and a prime festive release date, King is shaping up to be one of the most awaited Hindi films of 2026. Everyone is now looking forward to the official announcement, which will likely fall very soon.
