Mumbai: The promo of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri created excitement with its fresh pairing of Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday. But it also created controversy after fans noticed that the opening beats sounded similar to the iconic Saat Samundar track from the 1992 film Vishwatma.
Those few seconds of music have now led to a serious objection from the filmmaker Rajiv Rai, who says the track was used without his consent.
Rajiv Rai Says No Permission Was Taken
In an interview with Mid Day, Rajiv Rai shared his disappointment and explained why the usage was unauthorised. He said he was not approached for permission and that such actions are becoming a worrying trend in the industry.
According to him, there are filmmakers who use the old songs out of agreement with music labels, although such agreements do not permit using the music in new movies without the consent of the creator.
Rajiv pointed out that while Saregama holds certain rights, his contract does not permit the label to give the song for another movie. He clearly stated that the beats of Saat Samundar cannot be used unless he is consulted and compensated.
“They Must Pay Me and Get My Permission”
Rajiv further explained that the music label cannot transfer the music from Vishwatma into any new film without proper paperwork. He stated that everything must be documented legally, and creators must be paid for the usage of their work.
He confirmed that the beats heard in the first promo were missing from the latest teaser of Tu Meri Main Tera, but he is still unsure whether the track appears in the final film.
Legal Team to Contact Karan Johar
Rajiv Rai said that his legal team will formally reach out to Karan Johar and the makers of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri. He hopes the misunderstanding can be resolved peacefully, as he prefers avoiding legal battles.
However, he also made it clear that if proper protocol is not followed, he will not hesitate to take legal action. He added that if any content from his films is used in another project without permission, he will go to court before or after the release.

Directed by Sameer Vidwans, the film promises romance, humour and visually rich storytelling. It is presented by Dharma Productions and Namah Pictures, and produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Shareen Mantri Kedia, Kishor Arora and Bhumika Tewari.
The film had several date shifts earlier but has now locked its final release date. Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri is set to hit theatres on 25 December 2025, bringing festive season cheer with a youthful love story.
