Mumbai: Rani Mukerji fans have more reasons to celebrate as fresh details about Mardaani 3 continue to create excitement. After Yash Raj Films surprised everyone by preponing the release date, the much-awaited thriller has now successfully completed its censor process. The movie passed the Central Board of Film Certification on January 14, only a few weeks before its theatrical release on January 30.

U/A 16+ Certificate Brings Relief

According to industry sources, Mardaani 3 has been awarded a U/A 16+ certificate by the CBFC. This comes as a pleasant surprise, especially after the trailer hinted at intense and disturbing themes. Expectations were high that the movie would get an A certificate but the U/A 16+ rating allows the movie to reach a broader audience especially young audiences which could be in their favour at the box office.

Interestingly, among the three films in the franchise, only the first Mardaani had received an A rating. That film, released in 2014, remains one of the rare Yash Raj Films productions to carry such a certificate. The makers appear to have hit the right balance with Mardaani 3, with its content being hard-hitting yet reaching wider audiences.

Longest Film in the Mardaani Franchise

Another major highlight is the film’s runtime. The legal length of Mardaani 3 is 2 hours, 10 minutes and 36 seconds, which is the longest movie in the series to date. The first half runs for 1 hour, 6 minutes and 30 seconds, while the second half is 1 hour, 4 minutes and 6 seconds long.

As a comparison, Mardaani lasted 113 minutes or 1 hour and 53 minutes. Mardaani 2, released in 2019, was even shorter at 103 minutes, or 1 hour and 43 minutes, making it the briefest installment of the franchise. Crossing the two-hour mark for the first time, the third part promises a more detailed and layered narrative.

Rani Mukerji Returns as Shivani Shivaji Roy

The Mardaani series has always been driven by Rani Mukerji’s powerful portrayal of fearless cop Shivani Shivaji Roy, and the third film continues that legacy. In Mardaani 3, Shivani is caught in a race against time in order to save a number of disappeared girls, and once again, Shivani engages in a crime that rockets the whole system.

The film also stars Janki Bodiwala and Mallika Prasad in key roles. Helmed by director Abhiraj Minawala, the thriller aims to raise the stakes higher than ever before, both emotionally and narratively.

With its earlier release date, U/A 16+ certificate, and extended runtime, Mardaani 3 is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about Hindi releases of the year. Everyone is now looking forward to January 30 to witness the way Rani Mukerji returns to the big screen in her role of Shivani Shivaji Roy with another thrilling battle of justice.
