New Delhi: On Monday, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao publicly known as Telegu star NTR Junior has filed a suit before the Delhi High Court to exercise his right of publicity, as it is violated by several materials in circulation on all social media platforms and e-commerce sites.
NTR Jr has engaged senior advocate J. Sai Deepak along with his legal team to represent him before the Delhi High Court. In the matter titled Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao v. Ashok Kumar/John Doe & Others, the High Court instructed all social media networks and e-commerce operators to treat his petition as a formal grievance under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, and to take necessary action within three days.
Justice Arora indicated that the Court will issue a detailed order on the next hearing scheduled for December 22. The judge also emphasised that anyone seeking swift removal of objectionable digital content should first file a complaint with the concerned social media platform before approaching the court for an injunction.
The observation came in the backdrop of an ex parte interim injunction granted by the court to safeguard the personality rights of Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn. Many public figures have filed suit for protection of their personality rights, founder of “Art of Living” Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Actor Nagarjuna, Actress Aishwarya Rai, Abhisekh Bachchan and Karan Johar. Coordinate benches have passed orders to ensure their rights.
Prominent individuals such as journalist Sudhir Chaudhary have also approached the courts over the spread of allegedly misleading and AI-generated videos targeting them on social media. In a similar development, the court granted a John Doe injunction to safeguard the personality rights of podcaster Raj Shamani, noting that he enjoys significant public recognition in India, particularly within the content-creation space.
