Mumbai: Hyderabad witnessed one of its biggest cinematic celebrations as SS Rajamouli finally unveiled the official title of his much-awaited film Varanasi, previously known as SSMB29. The grand Globetrotter event held at Ramoji Film City on the evening of Saturday was a star-studded show that featured Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran besides hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic fans.
The event also featured Telugu presenter Suma Kanakala and Ashish Chanchlani, as the hosts of the event as more than 50,000 fans were present to see the first-ever teaser. The makers indeed provided a movie moment- The teaser was launched on a huge 130 ft x 100 ft screen, and it was one of the largest launches of a teaser that India has ever witnessed.
Title Reveal and Teaser: It is a Time-travel Adventure.
The teaser stunned the viewers with the unexpectedness. Hashtags such as #GlobeTrotter and #TimeTrotter were displayed at the bottom giving a hint that Varanasi is a time-travel adventure, based on Indian mythology and culture. The images were followed by a boastful display: SS Rajamouli Varanasi, in which the name was secured.
However, the scene that genuinely made the crowd on their feet was the moment when Mahesh Babu appeared in the first time; fierce, dusty and unstoppable. Riding a giant bull in the mystical scenery of Varanasi, he showed himself in a rugged avatar, which alludes to a power-filled, emotional, and depth-filled character.
Power-Packed Performance of Shruti Haasan
Shruti Haasan, who is an actress-singer, shone brightly with a magnetic rendition of the song Varanasi, Sanchari. Wearing an all-black outfit, she sang a spell-binding performance that caught the attention of the audience. Even though she is not the part of the movie as an actress, Shruti gives her gorgeous voice to the music, her singing in Sanchari is already being lauded on the basis of its richness and feeling.
Prithviraj Sukumaran comes in as the villain Kumbha
Among the most dramatic scenes in the night was when Prithviraj Sukumaran entered the stage rolling on his tech-inspired wheelchair, with the background music being extremely intense. People cheered as he announced what he was, he will be a villain, the powerful Kumbha, in Varanasi.
His chilling appearance on stage only affirmed what already happens to be the belief of the fans Prithviraj will play one of his strongest negative roles to date.
The Electrifying Entry of Priyanka Chopra Jonas
Global icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas made a royal entrance that was stunning to all. She was grateful and thrilled that she was cast to portray Mandakini by Rajamouli. Her words were full of passion on Indian cinema, when she said, “India is the country that celebrates cinema. Priyanka went as far as making a joke that Prithviraj is very scary in the movie and fans laughed and cheered.
SS Rajamouli’s Big Reveal
One of the biggest highlights of the night came when SS Rajamouli revealed that Varanasi will be presented in a full-screen IMAX format not just the teaser, but the entire film. He shared that this is the first time ever he is making a movie completely in full-screen IMAX, promising a grander, more cinematic experience unlike anything Indian cinema has delivered before. The teaser was screened in this massive format at the event, giving fans a breathtaking glimpse of the visual spectacle Rajamouli has crafted.
