Mumbai: Aryan Khan has taken a confident step into his professional journey, earning his first major recognition as a filmmaker. At the NDTV Indian of the Year 2025 awards, Shah Rukh Khan’s son was honoured with the Debutant Director award for his Netflix series The Bads Of Bollywood*, marking an important milestone in his career behind the camera.
Aryan Khan’s big moment as a debut director
The Netflix project with its high-energy storytelling and action-driven narrative has made Aryan build his own identity as a director and storyteller. The award marks the industry adopting his innovative vision and implementation and he is among the promising upcoming voices of the Indian entertainment. While accepting the honour, Aryan struck a balance between humour and gratitude, instantly winning over the audience.
In his speech, Aryan jokingly admitted that he shares his father Shah Rukh Khan’s love for trophies. He was quick to explain however that this victory was not about his popular lineage. Calling it his first-ever award, Aryan expressed hope that many more would follow. He then surprised everyone by dedicating the honour to his mother, Gauri Khan.
He shared that she constantly advises him to sleep on time, avoid mocking people and stay away from foul language. He smiled and said it was ironical that he got an award because of those very reasons and was grateful to everyone making his mother be proud of him. He also remarked that he could expect a little less punishment at home that night.
The candid moment added warmth to the ceremony and showed Aryan’s grounded approach despite his high-profile background. The emotional high did not stop there. Savita Chhibber the grandmother of Aryan Khan was also at the occasion and did not hold back as she said she was so proud of her grandson to have done so well. Her response was a poignant family affair to the evening.

With The Bads Of Bollywood earning recognition and Aryan Khan receiving his first professional award, the young filmmaker’s journey has clearly begun on a strong note. Instead of becoming an actor, Aryan has preferred to make his mark in the background as a producer, concentrating on telling stories, directing and content-based pieces.
