Mumbai: Yash Raj Films has once again shown its trademark flexibility when it comes to release planning. The studio has chosen to shift the upcoming action movie, Alpha featuring Alia Bhatt out of the already announced April 17 release date to allow the official action film, Battle of Galwan by Salman Khan to take its place in the same window.
According to the sources near the development, the move came after YRF got to know that Salman Khan was keen on booking April 17 to shoot his next big ticket movie. Given the long-standing professional relationship between Aditya Chopra and Salman Khan, the studio head chose to vacate the date without hesitation.
Why Alpha moved from April 17
Alpha is currently in an intense post-production phase, with extensive VFX and action sequences still being worked on. Earlier, the film had already been shifted from its original December 25 release to April 17, with YRF stating that the visual effects needed more time to achieve the desired scale and polish.
According to a senior trade source, April 17 was initially announced as a placeholder because it was considered a strong release window with no major films locked in. But after the situation of Battle of Galwan came in, Aditya Chopra chose to give the date to Salman Khan. The source further stated that YRF will shortly declare a new launch date of Alpha after reviewing the industry calendar for the coming months.
Alpha’s scale, cast, and ambition
Under the direction of Shiv Rawail, who previously directed the world-renowned series The Railway Men, Alpha is being targeted to become one of the largest female-centered action movies in India. The film features Alia Bhatt alongside Sharvari, and Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol play a significant role Alia and Sharvari are set to face off against Bobby Deol in high-intensity action sequences.
It is also a good addition to the growing spy universe of YRF, ranking alongside such blockbusters as Pathaan and Tiger 3. With its new release timeline, the makers now have additional breathing space to fine-tune the action choreography and VFX, ensuring the film meets the studio’s high visual standards while avoiding a crowded holiday release period.
