Lucknow, November 28: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday attended the closing ceremony of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Bharat Scouts and Guides and addressed the organisation’s 19th National Jamboree in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
“Service is the greatest strength of Scouts and Guides”: President Murmu
Addressing the gathering, the President said it is a matter of pride that for the past 75 years, the Bharat Scouts and Guides has been guiding young people and encouraging them to contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
She highlighted that the spirit of service remains the organisation’s strongest pillar.
Whether during floods, earthquakes or pandemics, Scouts and Guides have consistently been among the first to extend help, she noted.
President Murmu also emphasised that the organisation plays an important role in promoting national unity, and praised its efforts in empowering, sensitising, and motivating young people to work for the future of the country.
63 lakh members including over 24 lakh girls
The President stated that India has over 63 lakh Scouts and Guides, making the Bharat Scouts and Guides one of the largest Scouting organisations in the world. She expressed happiness that more than 24 lakh girls are part of the organisation and appreciated their discipline, commitment, and dedication to the welfare of society and humanity.
“Be prepared for every challenge”
Referring to the motto of the Scouts and Guides “Be Prepared” President Murmu said young people must build the ability to face future challenges with determination and confidence, without hesitation.
She urged them to develop skills such as:
- technical competence
- communication ability
- teamwork and coordination
- problem-solving
- leadership
These, she said would prove valuable throughout their lives.
Youth as custodians of India’s civilisational heritage
President Murmu described the youth as not only the builders of India’s future, but also the custodians of its cultural and civilisational traditions. She noted that an empowered and sensitive individual can empower many others, just as a single lamp can light several more lamps.
She expressed confidence that young people across India will continue to dedicate themselves to the nation’s development.
