Ports & Shipping Ministry Closes 10,755 Files, Frees 1.11 Lakh Sq Ft Under Special Campaign 5.0

₹4.14 crore generated from scrap disposal; focus on e-waste, grievance redressal and space optimisation

New Delhi, November 13: The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has reported strong operational gains under the government’s Special Campaign 5.0, completing large-scale record management, asset optimisation and cleanliness initiatives across its departments and public sector units.

According to official data, the campaign conducted between October 2 and 31 saw 28,489 physical and electronic files reviewed of which 10,755 were closed or weeded out, marking one of the ministry’s most extensive clean-office drives in recent years.

Space optimisation and waste-to-revenue push

A major highlight of the campaign was freeing 1.11 lakh sq. ft. of office space, enabling improved workspace efficiency across maritime institutions. Alongside the ministry generated ₹4.14 crore in revenue through systematic scrap disposal exercises, turning redundant material into monetisable assets.

228 cleanliness and governance activities conducted

The ministry and its affiliated bodies carried out 228 institutional campaigns, spanning:

  • e-waste segregation and disposal
  • record digitisation and management
  • solid-waste handling via newly installed vermicomposting units
  • “waste-to-wealth” initiatives in collaboration with NGOs
  • ocean clean-up drives including removal of dead sea grass
  • creation of functional items and structures from scrap material

Faster grievance redressal

Officials said the campaign significantly accelerated pending grievance resolution, with departments instructed to clear backlogs in line with DARPG (Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances) guidelines.

Strengthening governance in the maritime sector

The ministry said Special Campaign 5.0 aligns with the Centre’s vision of Swachhata, digital governance, and administrative efficiency, reinforcing the maritime sector’s commitment to sustainability and good governance.
