Chandigarh, November 12 (HS): The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab, in a joint operation with SAS Nagar Police, foiled a major gangster conspiracy by arresting two operatives of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang linked to foreign-based gangster Goldy Dhillon after a gunfight near the Ghaggar bridge on the Ambala–Dera Bassi highway.

Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday that the arrested individuals have been identified as Sharanjit Singh, a resident of Motemajra (Mohali), and Aman Kumar, a resident of Khizrgarh, Zirakpur (Mohali). Sharanjit Singh was currently living in Tangauri (Mohali). Police teams recovered two .32-bore pistols, 10 live cartridges, and also seized their Bajaj Discover motorcycle.

DGP Yadav further stated that preliminary investigations revealed the duo’s involvement in the shooting incident in Rajpura last month. He added that Goldy Dhillon had tasked them with targeting a businessman in Punjab.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Pramod Ban, head of AGTF, said that foreign-based gangster Goldy Dhillon was also the mastermind behind the daylight murder of an Indian-origin industrialist in October this year in Abbotsford, a city in British Columbia, Canada.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) AGTF Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said both arrested individuals have a criminal record, and two FIRs related to arms offences are already registered against Aman.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harmandeep Hans, along with SP (Rural) Manpreet Singh, visited the encounter site. They stated that credible intelligence inputs were received about the movement of two active operatives of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Acting swiftly on the information, joint teams of AGTF and SAS Nagar Police, led by DSP Dera Bassi Bikramjit Brar, carried out the operation. During the action, the gangsters opened fire on the police to evade arrest, prompting police retaliation in which both accused were injured and subsequently arrested.
