Mumbai: Horror-comedy Thamma is becoming a hit at the Indian box office, with Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna contributing approximately Rs 12-12.5 crore on its third day and bringing its three-day collection to over ₹53 crore. The movie witnessed an organically reduced collection post to the festive holiday season with some the states such as Gujarat and the Hindi belt giving it some back-up. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the business is being propelled by urban centres, especially, and the film has been maintaining a good grip even after the holiday boom had ended.

Having no major Hindi releases until Ajay Devgn De De Pyaar De 2, Thamma will be able to sail freely at the box office, aiming for spikes over the weekends. The six day long weekend collection is estimated to be of about Rs 90 crore and there is a likelihood of approaching Rs 100 crore given that growth is projected to be strong on both the Saturday and the Sunday.

The movie is a major milestone in the career of Ayushmann Khurrana as it is his highest opening ever and it breaks the first day earnings of DreamGirl 2. Thamma is the second-highest opener till date in the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe (MHCU), and follows Stree 2, which subsequently grossed nearly Rs 600 crore. The performance of previous universe entries such as Munjya was also sound.

First-day box office figures show that Thamma made Rs 25.11 crore on Tuesday, Rs 19.23 crore on Wednesday and Rs 14.45 crore on Thursday and a total of Rs 58.79 crore in the first week. This is when, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the vital phase starts between Friday and Sunday, and by strong weekend gains, it could provide the Ayushmann-Rashmika starrer a fantastic extended weekend total.
