Kolkata, 13 September (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had expressed concern over the unrest caused by the ‘Gen Z’ movement. She had said that as a neighbor, Nepal has always stood with Bengal. Mamata Banerjee has expressed confidence that this relationship will continue even during the interim government. On Saturday, she congratulated Nepal’s interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki and expressed confidence that friendship and cooperation will remain unbreakable.
On Saturday, Mamata wrote on social media, “I extend my best wishes to the Right Honourable Mrs. Sushila Karki on her assumption of office as the Prime Minister of the Interim Government of Nepal” She further wrote, “West Bengal has borders with Nepal, and close people-to-people relations. We look forward to nurturing of the deep-rooted ties of friendship and cooperation as neighbours.”
Sushila Karki was the first woman Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in the history of Nepal. Now at the age of 72, she became the first woman Prime Minister of Nepal. She took oath in the presence of President Ramchandra Poudel on Friday night.
On Tuesday, after the resignation of P. Sharma Oli, a section of the agitators suggested the name of Kathmandu’s independent mayor and popular rapper Balendra Shah (Balen) as the next Prime Minister. But ultimately a large section of the agitators supported Sushila Karki, after which she became the interim Prime Minister.
