Lee Sung Jin, the acclaimed creator of the hit series ‘Beef’, has officially launched his new production company, Lila Pictures, under a renewed overall deal with Netflix. This exciting development comes as he prepares to produce two new television projects for the streaming giant.

One of the projects is a limited drama titled ‘The Only Child’, which will feature Ali Wong, a star from the first season of ‘Beef’. Wong will not only star in the series but also serve as a producer. The storyline revolves around her character, a mother of a professional archer who is gearing up to compete for her first gold medal. This collaboration marks a significant reunion for Lee and Wong, who have previously worked together to great acclaim.

The second project is a drama series called ‘Citizen’s Arrest’, created by Gene Hong, who also contributed as a writer and producer on ‘Beef’. This series follows two long-time friends and neighbours whose obsession with solving a local crime serves as an escape from their own personal crises.

Lee expressed his enthusiasm about launching Lila Pictures, stating, “I’m excited to launch Lila Pictures with the support of my creative home at Netflix and the help of Hyunji Ward, our new SVP of Film and TV.” He further explained that the term ‘lila’ in Sanskrit can be interpreted as ‘the divine play’, reflecting his vision for the company.

Hyunji Ward, who has been appointed as the senior vice president of Film and Television at Lila Pictures, brings a wealth of experience from her previous roles at UTA and Dakota Johnson’s TeaTime Pictures.

Lee Sung Jin’s previous work on ‘Beef’ has garnered significant recognition, including 29 Emmy nominations and 11 wins across its two seasons. The series has been praised for its storytelling and character development, making it one of the standout shows since its debut in 2023.

As Lee embarks on this new chapter with Lila Pictures, fans can anticipate more innovative storytelling and collaborations in the future.
