Mumbai: The makers of Dhurandhar: The Revenge released the long-awaited trailer on Saturday, and the trailer will be the first introduction of the fans to the next installment of the blockbuster spy movie featuring Ranveer Singh. The three minute 25 second trailer hints at a darker and more intense story as Hamza Ali Mazari returns with revenge on his mind.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the sequel is set to release in theatres on March 19 and will arrive just in time for the Eid holiday weekend.

Hamza Ali Mazari takes control of Lyari

In the trailer, Hamza Ali Mazari enters the Lyari town in Pakistan on a high post following the assassination of the gangster, Rehman Dakait, who was portrayed by Akshaye Khanna in the first film. The story also tells more of the past life of Hamza since he is Jaskirat Singh Rangi who was a spy of India and who was trained on dangerous undercover operations.

Similar to the first movie, the second one is also the continuation of the tale of an Indian R&AW spy who goes undercover as a gangster in Pakistan and tries to infiltrate a criminal network. The visuals are harsh to indicate that the mission of Hamza would be much more risky as he endeavors to take down an expanding terror network.

Akshaye Khanna, who plays the role of Rehman Dakait, dies in the first movie, but it is reported that the actor will still be featured in the second installment with a cameo appearance.

A sequel riding on historic success

The new movie comes in the wake of the phenomenal success of Dhurandhar released on December 5 and subsequently making history at the box office. The action drama made a total of approximately Rs 838.5 crore in domestic net collections and approximately Rs 1,305.35 crore in international net collections.

The movie had a powerful cast led by Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, R. Madhavan and Ranveer Singh alongside Akshaye Khanna. Although Arjun Rampal was the main villain, Madhavan was the moral compass of the film. Sanjay Dutt did a good job as a rough and tough cop, and Rakesh Bedi as a rogue politician added humour to the film. However, it was Ranveer Singh who carried the emotional weight of the film.

The success also marked an important turning point for Ranveer Singh. His earlier releases had struggled at the box office, but Dhurandhar became the biggest hit of his career and the highest grossing Indian film of 2025.

Music and global buzz boosted the film

Another major factor behind the film’s popularity was the electrifying music by Shashwat Sachdev. The soundtrack became hugely popular, especially the remixed tracks Ramba Ho, Ishq Jalakar – Karvaan, and the viral song FA9LA by Flipperachi.

Although the film was banned in some parts of the Middle East, it had great interest in other areas. R Madhavan says that a great number of fans in cities such as Dubai even travelled to India to watch it in theatres. The film was also among the most pirated films in Pakistan.

Sequel gets clear box office runway

First, the follow-up was expected to compete with the action movie Toxic by Yash in theaters. The Kannada film has however been delayed to June because of the tensions in the Middle East.

Since the conflict has now been evaded, Dhurandhar: The Revenge is likely to have a national release in India. Trade analysts feel that the movie is bound to be successful because there is no big Hindi release in the last few weeks and thus the movie will have the screen space all over the country. Directed by Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar, the movie will be released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.

With the trailer already creating strong buzz online, fans are now waiting to see whether Hamza Ali Mazari can repeat the massive success of the first film and deliver another blockbuster for Ranveer Singh.
