Mumbai: Vijay Deverakonda is ready to make a strong comeback on the big screen with his next ambitious project, Ranabaali. Officially titled after months of speculation as VD14, the film promises a powerful mix of history, action, and emotion. With the British rule in India as a backdrop, Ranabaali unfolds a lesser known part of the Indian history through a cinematic perspective.

The first glimpse of the film was released on Republic Day by Mythri Movie Makers and instantly grabbed attention for its raw visuals and intense narration. As Vijay Deverakonda takes on a ferocious new role, and Rashmika Mandanna reappears as the lead female protagonist, the movie is already becoming one of the most discussed films of the year.

A Story of Resistance Set in the 19th Century

Ranabaali is set between 1854 and 1878, a time marked by deep suffering under British colonial policies. The glimpse begins with the clear picture of how some areas were intentionally driven into drought and famine, particularly during the reign of some officials such as Sir Richard Temple. The narration emphasizes the huge economic exploitation of India and the human price that went into it.

Vijay Deverakonda plays Ranabaali, a man who rises against injustice to protect his people. Branded a savage by the British, he embraces that identity to become the hero his land needs. Among the most striking images of the teaser is when Vijay rides a horse dragging a British officer into the railway tracks, which makes it quite obvious that this is not a kind-hearted story.

The makers have clarified that Ranabaali is not a biopic or a textbook retelling of history. Rather it is based on actual events and oral histories that did not find their way to popular history books. The movie recreates a period through several suppressed documents and lost narratives.

Cast, Crew, and Grand Scale

Rashmika Mandanna plays Jayamma, marking her third collaboration with Vijay Deverakonda after Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade. On screen chemistry between them is a significant point of attraction to fans. Their off-screen relationship is another reason why this movie is intriguing.

International actor Arnold Vosloo, best known for The Mummy, plays the antagonist Sir Theodore Hector, adding global weight to the project. His presence strengthens the portrayal of British authority and conflict in the story.

The film is directed by Rahul Sankrityan who has previously worked with Vijay in Taxiwaala and has been credited with the success of Shyam Singha Roy, produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar under Mythri Movie Makers. T-Series presents the film, further expanding its pan-India reach. The music is composed by the celebrated duo Ajay and Atul, while Pramod Tammineni has penned the screenplay.

Ranabaali will release in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, aiming to reach audiences across the country.

Vijay Deverakonda’s Upcoming Films

Ranabaali is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 11, 2026. The topics, the subject, and the role of the cast make it one of the most ambitious projects Vijay Deverakonda has ever done.

On the work front, Vijay was last seen in the spy action thriller Kingdom, directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri. Available now on Netflix, the movie is an exploration of the emotional tension between two brothers on opposite sides of the law.

Looking ahead, Vijay will also star in Rowdy Janardhana, a high-energy action film directed by Ravi Kiran Kola. Keerthy Suresh plays the main role in the movie, which will be released theatrically in December 2026.

With Ranabaali, Vijay Deverakonda appears ready to redefine his screen image once again, blending rebellion, history, and heroism in a story that aims to question how history remembers its fighters.
