Mumbai: Prabhas’ much talked about horror comedy The Raja Saab continues to face a tough run at the box office. The film is not recovering at all and is failing to sustain the momentum in India and abroad five days after its release. Despite a strong opening day, the film has failed to cross the ₹200 crore mark at the worldwide box office.

The Maruthi directed film opened on Friday with an impressive ₹100 crore worldwide collection, raising expectations ahead of the Pongal and Sankranthi weekend. But the figures dropped drastically in the following days. The weekend also did not give the boost that was expected and the film also did not go through the Monday test.

Day 5 Numbers Paint a Grim Picture

The Raja Saab Box Office: Prabhas Film Sees Sharp Weekend Drop, Sankranti Holidays Offer Last Hope

On Tuesday, The Raja Saab earned just ₹4.85 crore net in India, marking another significant fall. By the end of day five, the film’s total India net collection stood at ₹119.45 crore, translating to ₹143.25 crore gross. The film had enjoyed a good opening in the United States but it was unable to maintain the momentum in overseas markets. The aggregate foreign sales amount to slightly less than 4 million dollars.

This brings The Raja Saab’s global collection to around ₹175 crore gross, a figure that remains below expectations for a Prabhas starrer.

Falling Behind Past Big Releases

When compared to Prabhas’ recent releases, the gap becomes even more evident. By day five, Salaar had already crossed ₹425 crore worldwide, while Kalki 2898 AD was racing towards ₹600 crore. In contrast, By comparison, The Raja Saab lags behind even Game Changer of Ram Charan, which had grossed ₹186 crore in theatres worldwide, and was called among the biggest box office disasters in Telugu movie history.

Expectations vs Reality

The Raja Saab had generated curiosity as it marked Prabhas’ return to a family entertainer after more than a decade. The actor had mostly played mass action movies since the Baahubali series and people were expecting a retro version of the actor. Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, Boman Irani and Zarina Wahab also form a solid supporting cast in the film.

However, largely negative reviews from critics affected word of mouth, leading to a sharp decline in footfalls. Its present trend means that the future seems to be a hard road to go through in case of The Raja Saab that now stands the threat of being remembered as one of the biggest flops of the festive season.
