Mumbai: The makers of Border 2 unveiled the film’s first song Ghar Kab Aaoge on January 2, 2026, in an unforgettable setting at the Longewala Tanot sector in Jaisalmer. To make the song release an emotive experience filled with pride and remembrance, the team decided not to launch it with a typical city launch, but with one of the most historic military frontiers in India.

BSF jawans and Army personnel were the first audience of the song as they attended the launch. It featured cast members Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty, as well as producers Bhushan Kumar and Nidhi Dutta. The atmosphere was filled with respect, gratitude and collective emotion as the music echoed across the desert landscape.

A timeless song reborn for a new generation

Ghar Kab Aaoge is a reimagined version of the iconic song from Border (1997), originally composed by Anu Malik with lyrics by Javed Akhtar. For Border 2, Mithoon has recreated the song with extra lyrics by Manoj Muntashir Shukla, but maintaining the essence of the original.

The new version brings together an extraordinary lineup of singers. Sonu Nigam and Roopkumar Rathod, who lent their voices to the original, return once again. Arijit Singh, Vishal Mishra and Diljit Dosanjh accompany them and they contribute new shades of emotion and depth. Although all voices are memorable, the performance by Sonu Nigam particularly resonates with the listener and is particularly nostalgic.

The song also visually connects the past and present of the Border universe. Sunny Deol, reprising his legendary role as Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, brings back memories of the 1997 classic. The song includes Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, Diljit Dosanjh, Mona Singh, Medha Rana, Sonam Bajwa and Anya Singh, which underscores the ensemble aspect of the movie.

A song launch that became a moment of national emotion

What made the launch truly special was its setting. Unveiled among soldiers at Longewala Tanot, the song felt less like a promotional event and more like a heartfelt tribute. The songs held a great resonance among the jawans in the crowd and enhanced the feelings of longing, sacrifice and love to the nation that the song symbolizes.

For the team, this launch marked a defining milestone in the journey of Border 2. It brought together cinema, music and real life bravery at a location that holds deep historical significance. The makers were deeply grateful to the BSF and the Army to be present, warm and serve them and this was a great honour to play the music of the film in such a significant place.

Clarification on credits and the legacy of the original

After the music credits controversy, Anu Malik posted a follow-up clarification on Instagram Stories. He said that he had been accorded great respect and warmth by producer Bhushan Kumar and that any rumors to the contrary were false. Malik expressed pride in the collaboration and gratitude for being part of a song that carries such emotional and national significance.

The original song, also known through Sandese Aate Hai, remains one of Hindi cinema’s most loved patriotic compositions. Looking back at the way it was created, at some point Malik has said that he dedicated his heart to the song because he loves India, because he believes in the spirit and power of the nation.
