Ravi Ranjan take charge as a Managing Director of State Bank Of India

New Delhi: The State Bank of India (SBI) is the biggest public sector bank in the country, and it has a new Managing Director, Ravi Ranjan. His hiring is a significant shift in the highest leadership of the bank. He started his new position in mid-December 2025 and will be in this position until his retirement in September 2028.

Ravi Ranjan was working as a Deputy Managing Director at SBI before assuming the role of the Managing Director. The Government of India approved his promotion according to State Bank of India Act. He has taken over the previous Managing Director whose service had expired. Ravi Ranjan has become a part of the top decision making team of the bank with this new responsibility.

Ravi Ranjan is going to be the Managing Director taking care of some rather significant spheres of the SBI work. These are risk management, adherence to rules and laws of banks, and bad or stressed loans. These are very critical areas to ensure the bank is safe, strong and reliable to millions of customers in the country. The position will assist SBI to address financial issues in a cautious and strategized manner.

Ravi Ranjan is a long-standing and experienced person in the banking industry. He was recruited in SBI in 1991, as a Probationary Officer. He had toiled over the years and gradually worked his way into the bank in different ranks. Having served over 30 years, he knows how SBI operates both at managerial and lower levels.

He has dealt with numerous senior roles in the course of his career. He worked at the Global Markets division, where he led the division that handles massive financial operations of the bank as Deputy Managing Director. He also headed the Corporate Accounts Group where he had been dealing with large corporations and major loan accounts.

Ravi Ranjan has also dealt with other cities and countries which further enhanced his broad experience. He worked in Mumbai as the President and Chief Operating Officer in SBI Capital Markets, a significant financial section of the SBI group. He served as General Manager of the Retail Network in Bengaluru where he oversaw the services that were provided to the ordinary customers by the bank branches.

Ravi Ranjan also got exposure on an international level besides his work in India. He was employed in such cities as Hong Kong and Los Angeles where he dealt with overseas banking activities. This has been his international experience that has enabled him to know more about international banking systems and customer needs outside of India.

His selection as Managing Director can be considered a good move by SBI. The bank has crores of customers and it is a significant contributor in the economy of India. A powerful, well-established leadership is highly desired in such a big institution, particularly during the period when the banking industry is going through difficult times such as loan recovery, digitalization and worldwide economic unpredictability.

This position was offered to Ravi Ranjan because a government selection body recommended his name upon due examination. His length of service, good reputation, and comprehensive knowledge of the banking industry were some of the reasons why he was chosen.

SBI looks to remain stable, safe in its banking operations and consistent growth with Ravi Ranjan being the new leader. His leadership will assist the bank to reinforce its structures as well as assisting customers, businesses, and financial demands of the country.
