Mumbai: Nandamuri Balakrishna’s highly awaited film Akhanda 2: Thaandavam was supposed to hit theatres on Friday, December 5. But just a day before release, the makers announced that the film would not arrive as planned. The sudden delay left fans confused, and many rushed to social media to ask for a new date. Regrettably, the team has already given an apology without specifying the actual release date of the film.

Makers Say “Unexpected Issues” Forced the Delay
In an official statement, distributor 14 Reels Plus apologised to fans across the globe. They told them that their team did all they could to release Akhanda 2 in theatres on time and something went wrong and the film was not released.
Their post on X said, “We’ve tried our absolute best to bring Akhanda 2 to the big screens. But sometimes, the most unexpected things happen. We sincerely apologise to all the fans and cinema lovers who have been eagerly waiting for the film.”
Despite the apology, the makers did not reveal a new release date.
Court Case Likely Behind the Postponement
Although the team did not give an official reason, the delay according to industry reports indicate that the delay is associated with a legal conflict. Eros International Media Limited approached the Madras High Court over pending arbitration money owed by 14 Reels Entertainment Private Limited for nearly 11 years. The amount reportedly stands at ₹28 crore plus interest.
Because of this, the High Court passed an order preventing the release of Akhanda 2 until the issue is resolved. This legal block is believed to be the main reason the film could not release on schedule.

Suresh Babu steps in and shares his opinion
During promotions for his film Psych Siddhartha, producer Suresh Babu addressed the Akhanda 2 situation. He extended support to other producers who are facing financial pressure and said that such matters should not be discussed publicly.
He stated, “Those are all financial matters. They should not be discussed in the open.” He has also said that business side of filmmaking is being dragged in the public debate unnecessarily. In his opinion, speculation and blame are of no help.
He also expressed concern that backstage financial issues are coming out too often. “The audience just needs to watch a film. Why are we giving those details? Everyone has these financial issues; they’re nothing new,” he said. Suresh Babu hopes the parties resolve the matter soon.
