New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to India on December 4 and 5, 2025, at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the governments of Russia and India confirmed on Friday.
During the state visit, Putin will attend the 23rd annual summit between India and Russia. He is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Modi and will be received by Indian President Droupadi Murmu, who will host an official banquet in his honour.
The Kremlin described the visit as “of great importance,” affirming that it offers an opportunity to comprehensively review the broad agenda of Russia–India relations encompassing political, trade, economic, scientific, technological, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
This will be Putin’s first trip to India since December 2021, marking the first high-level in-person interaction between the two nations since major global realignments following Russia’s 2022 military actions in Ukraine.
Officials expect several inter-governmental and commercial agreements to be signed or progressed during the visit though details on the nature of these deals have not yet been publicly disclosed.
Further, analysts believe defence cooperation including the supplier relationship around the S-400 Triumf air defence system may be a focal point of discussion. However, as per India’s Defence Secretary, while additional procurement could be on the table, no formal announcement on new orders is expected during this visit.
