Mumbai: Indian openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal rewrote the history books during their match-winning stand against New Zealand on Thursday. Their colossal 212-run partnership not only set up India’s highest-ever Women’s World Cup total but also saw a slew of individual and partnership records tumble.

India’s final score of 340 for 3 surpassed their previous tournament best of 330. The foundation was laid by Mandhana, who hit her 14th ODI century, bringing her just one short of Meg Lanning’s all-time record of 15. This knock also elevated Mandhana to 17 international hundreds, equaling Lanning for the most by any woman across all formats.
During her innings, Mandhana also became the highest-scoring opening batter in women’s ODI history, surpassing Suzie Bates’ tally of 5088 runs. Her form in 2025 has been unparalleled; this was her fifth ODI hundred this year, tying Tazmin Brits for the most in a calendar year. Her run tally of 1259 is now the highest ever by a woman in a single year.
Her partner, Pratika Rawal, etched her own name into history. She became the joint-quickest woman to reach 1000 ODI runs, achieving the milestone in just 23 innings and equaling a 37-year-old record set by Lindsay Reeler in 1988. Rawal’s 976 runs in 2025 are now the second-most in a calendar year, trailing only her opening partner.
Together, their 212-run stand is now the highest partnership for any wicket for India at a Women’s World Cup. It was also the highest-ever partnership recorded against New Zealand in women’s ODIs.
This marked the seventh century-stand between Mandhana and Rawal, equaling the Indian record held by Mithali Raj and Punam Raut. It was also only the third time in the history of the Women’s World Cup that both openers scored centuries in the same innings.
