New Delhi/Visakhapatnam: The Indian Navy will induct another powerful indigenous warship into its fleet in Visakhapatnam today October 6, 2025. This second anti-submarine warfare (ASW-SWC) warship, named ‘Androth’ will be commissioned at a formal ceremony presided over by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command.
This induction marks a significant step towards India’s self-reliance in the defense sector. Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) Kolkata ‘Androth’ utilizes over 80% indigenous content a shining example of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ campaign.
Coastal Security Will Gain Unprecedented Strength
The induction of ‘Androth’ will significantly enhance the Indian Navy’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities particularly in coastal and shallow waters. This warship is capable of detecting and neutralizing enemy submarines further securing India’s maritime borders.
This commissioning is part of the Navy’s continued pace of indigenous capability enhancement in recent months. Prior to ‘Androth’ several state-of-the-art Indian-built warships, such as ‘Arnala’, ‘Nistar’, ‘Udayagiri’ and ‘Nilgiri’ have been commissioned into the Navy. All these inductions demonstrate the growing design expertise and indigenous innovation of Indian shipyards and industries reflecting the Navy’s balanced development across the entire spectrum of maritime operations.
