The Bengal Files Storyline

The Bengal Files immerses into one of the Indian historical chapters that have not been studied as thoroughly but still have a lot to tell. The film partially takes place in the year 1946 against the background of pre-Independence Bengal, the events leading up to the Great Calcutta Killings (Direct Action Day) and other communal upheavals. The film subsequently leads to a current day inquiry.

The story begins with the case of a missing person, a journalist vanishes during his investigation of corruption in the government apparatus of Bengal. A CBI officer picks up the case, and he slowly uncovers the hidden reality. As the investigation progresses, old wounds from 1946 begin to surface.

The essence is that the film employs the investigative-thriller framework to bridge the gap between the past and the present to show how the trauma of the past is still reverberating in the present society. It is a combination of drama, thriller and period-elements in an attempt to stir the mind along with the heart.
