Mumbai: SS Rajamouli’s next ambitious project Varanasi has once again taken over social media, this time due to growing buzz around its release date. Starring Mahesh Babu and global star Priyanka Chopra in the lead, the film is officially confirmed to arrive in theatres in 2027. But the makers have made a recent post that has led to much speculation that the release may coincide with the auspicious festival of Ram Navami.
Ram Navami Release Speculation Gains Momentum
The makers recently shared a short video on their official social media handles with the caption “COMING IN 2027.” The clip shows Lord Hanuman walking with a brick on his head, a visual deeply associated with devotion and Lord Ram. This was soon followed by fans associating the imagery with the Sri Rama Navami, a festival that is commonly used to release big-budget movies.

Most of the conversations online refer to the year 2027 when April 9 is likely to fall on Ram Navami. The excitement is also high and the team has not paid any special attention to the release date yet.
Adding to the anticipation, reports from 123Telugu suggest that the makers may unveil a major update on March 26, 2026. This date also falls close to the Ram Navami period, further fueling expectations of a teaser or announcement.
Teaser Creates Global Buzz

The teaser of Varanasi, which was unveiled earlier, had already left a strong impact. It depicted Mahesh Babu in a ferocious character of Rudhra, riding a bull, wielding trishul and covered in blood. Priyanka Chopra stars as Mandakini and Prithviraj Sukumaran as the villain Kumbha.
The teaser of Varanasi made history when it was screened at the iconic Le Grand Rex theatre in Paris on January 5. This marked the first time an Indian film teaser was showcased at the legendary venue. The official X handle of Le Grand Rex posted photos of the happening, referring to Varanasi as one of the most anticipated films to be released in 2027. It was regarded as a big milestone of Indian cinema in the international scene.
Directed by SS Rajamouli, with a story written by V Vijayendra Prasad and music composed by Oscar-winning MM Keeravani, Varanasi is shaping up to be one of the biggest cinematic events of the decade. It has mythological themes, strong graphics and big star power, which keeps generating suspense as fans anticipate official answers to the question of whether the movie will be released or not.
