Mumbai: A major controversy has shaken the Bollywood industry after reports of a financial fallout between actor Ranveer Singh and the makers of Don 3, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment. The production house has allegedly insisted on compensation amount of 40 crores by arguing that it had sustained massive financial losses after Singh exited the much-hyped action thriller.

This controversy has already become one of the most discussed issues in the movie world, not so much because of the box office figures or casting decisions, but because of the magnitude of the financial dispute, and its broader effect on film production.

What Led to the Rs 40 Crore Dispute?

As a report by Variety India revealed, Excel Entertainment had already been investing heavily in the pre-production phase of Don 3. This included detailed scheduling, location scouting, planning logistics, and hiring technical crew. The producers reportedly moved forward with these arrangements after Ranveer Singh had confirmed his commitment to lead the film.

However, Singh later stepped away from the project, which Excel claims resulted in major financial setbacks. The production house accuses them of making the initial investments according to the approval and availability of the actor, and his abrupt departure derailed the whole planning process.

As a result, several department heads and crew members were reportedly released from their contracts and asked to seek other work. Excel directly blames their losses on these disruptions and this is what constitutes their Rs 40 crore compensation claim.

Ranveer Singh’s Stand on the Matter

Ranveer Singh, on the other hand, is said to be strongly contesting the demand. According to sources quoted in the report, the actor maintains that he should not be held financially responsible for leaving the project.

Singh reportedly exited Don 3 because he was unhappy with the script. Sources state that he had many times asked them to change and that he was not satisfied with the final draft. His side reasons that creative dissatisfaction is a legitimate cause to get away and is not worth a financial penalty.

Excel Entertainment, however, insists that pre-production only moved ahead after Singh gave his approval to the script and the project timeline.

Failed Talks and Producers Guild Steps In

In an attempt to resolve the matter, representatives of both Ranveer Singh and Excel Entertainment reportedly held a two-hour meeting last Friday. Unfortunately, the discussions failed to result in any agreement.

As the tension continues to rise, now the Producers Guild of India has intervened to mediate the two sides. The objective is to reach a middle ground and ensure that the problem does not continue to grow among the industry. As of now, neither Ranveer Singh nor Excel Entertainment has released an official statement addressing the controversy.

What’s Next for Both Sides?

The dispute comes at a crucial time for both parties. Ranveer Singh is currently preparing for the release of Dhurandhar: Part 2, one of his most anticipated upcoming projects. Meanwhile, Excel Entertainment continues to evaluate its production slate, especially after delays surrounding Don 3.

With industry bodies now involved, all eyes are on how this high-profile conflict will be resolved. It remains yet to be seen whether it will conclude in a settlement or a formal arbitration, although the case has already drawn attention to the intricate financial and imaginative processes that underlie big-budget Bollywood films.

For now, fans can only wait for official clarity on the fate of Don 3 and the outcome of this Rs 40 crore standoff.
