Mumbai: The fallout between Ranveer Singh and the makers of Don 3 continues to grab headlines, with fresh details now emerging from the crucial meeting between the actor and Excel Entertainment’s Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. Meanwhile, both parties were said to have accused each other of the collapse, but a new leak shows how Ranveer strenuously defended himself against the purported ₹40 crore payment.

Ranveer Singh’s Stand On ₹40 Crore Compensation

According to a reliable source, the central point of disagreement during the meeting was the demand that Ranveer Singh pay ₹40 crore to compensate for the losses incurred during the film’s pre-production stage. Ranveer is reported to argue that he had not received any payment off the producers and thus did not find it necessary to give them back such a huge sum.

He is quoted saying that film projects are usually postponed, halted, or put on hold and in instances of this the actors do not even get paid the time and effort they put in doing it. In his view, this was a business risk that all stakeholders accept when signing a project.

Baiju Bawra Experience And Shah Rukh Khan Angle

During the discussion, Ranveer also brought up his experience with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Baiju Bawra. He reportedly spent nearly a year preparing for the demanding role and turned down several film offers in the process. The project was however shelved and Bhansali proceeded on to another film, Love and war which features Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. Ranveer supposedly responded by saying that he was not paid to spend a year working on the preparation, which proves his point that failures are a part of the business.

The actor also mentioned that Shah Rukh Khan was reportedly approached for Don 3. Ranveer claimed that in case Shah Rukh would have accepted it, he would have been substituted without any pay. On that basis, he reportedly felt justified in refusing to pay the demanded amount.

As the standoff continues, neither party has made an official statement. Nevertheless, these new information points at the complexity of the conflict and the increased tension around Don 3, which is left in the grey zone.
