Mumbai: Just weeks before its theatrical release, O’Romeo has found itself in the middle of an unexpected controversy. Sanober Shaikh, the daughter of Hussain Ustara, has sent out a legal notice to the filmmakers of the said film, claiming that this may be an unflattering depiction of her father in the upcoming action thriller.
According to sources, the notice has been addressed to producer Sajid Nadiadwala of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and director Vishal Bhardwaj. Sanober has allegedly demanded Rs 2 crore as compensation, claiming that the film may harm her family’s reputation. She has further asked that the amount be paid within seven days. Besides the monetary demand, the notice is also said to ask the makers to stop or cancel the release of the film until her concerns are addressed.

While the makers have not officially stated that O’Romeo is based on any real life individual, speculation has been circulating for some time that the film may draw inspiration from stories linked to Hussain Ustara and Sapna Didi. To make the matter even more intriguing, the teaser that was published on January 10 states that the film is based on true events, which apparently has made the problem even more acute.
To date, the official reaction of the team of this film to the notice is still absent. Whether the makers will act by clarifying or taking legal action or wait until release of the film to resolve the issue remains to be seen.
O’Romeo has a massive ensemble cast that consists of Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, Avinash Tiwary, Farida Jalal, Vikrant Massey, Nana Patekar, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, Aruna Irani, Hussain Dalal, Resh Lamba and Rahul Deshpande. The film marks the fourth collaboration between Shahid Kapoor and director Vishal Bhardwaj after Kaminey, Haider and Rangoon. It is scheduled to hit theatres on February 13.
