Mumbai: Nora Fatehi, a Bollywood actor and dancer, has also been highly responsive to the online backlash after her recent appeal to world peace was met with criticism on social media. The controversy commenced when she posted an emotional video message touching on the escalating tensions in West Asia, especially the war between the United States, Israel and Iran.
Nora Fatehi Calls for Peace, Faces Backlash
This week Nora Fatehi shared a video on Instagram in which she encouraged individuals to go beyond division, hatred and animosity at a time when gruesome images of war-torn regions are filling the news feed. She made it clear that she is safe in India and not in Dubai as some of the fans had thought.
As she put it in her message, Nora Fatehi said that she was extremely shaken after viewing images of violence and destruction. She explained that the people of the world, on the one hand, only desire to live peacefully and prosperously and end up always living in unpredictability and insecurity, on the other. She also stated that the society is fed up with multiple war conflicts and requested believers to have faith, togetherness and strength together in these turbulent times.
But her message was not received well by everyone. Certain users of the social media condemned her when she talked about geopolitical events and others misunderstood her when she simply called on people to cease the violence.
“If Peace Bothers You, Check Yourself”
On March 3, Nora Fatehi posted another video addressing the trolls directly. Prior to reacting strongly to the criticism, she wished fans happy Holi. She reported that most individuals have lost the ability to comprehend and listening abilities and encouraged them to reflect more intelligibly before responding online.
Still on her position, she explained that her message was directed to all people and not a particular nationality, faith, or background. Nora believes that when one has an issue with speaking against chaos and endorsing peace, then they must doubt their own morals.
When she was asked to reflect on her emotional state, she told me that she had just finished her prayers and was setting to break her fast when she reflected on the strangeness of people being angry even when they are called upon to join the world peace. She has termed that response as terrifying and has stated that she will not relent in promoting cohesiveness and kindness.
On the Work Front
Amid the online debate, Nora Fatehi continues to stay busy professionally. Recently, she appeared in the movie Thamma, where she performed in a special appearance in the song “Dilbar Ki Aankhon Ka.” She also will make an appearance in the forthcoming Kannada action drama KD: The Devil.
With her latest statement, Nora has made it clear that while criticism may come her way, her message remains unchanged. For her, calling for peace in difficult times should never be controversial.
